16/04: How to make annoying pages:)) and why we do it.

Why, in this age of information, are so many of us, including myself, making such crumby pages? I found a link for one of my old favorite sites. If I'm not mistaked the author of this site had a cam on .ww for a short while. Go to How to make an annoying website This is a sarcastic (and hilarious) list of the things people do wrong when making a site. I've tried a lot of these things on a test site myself. My latest pride and joy was making text scroll over a static background. I was so excited about it I almost put it up until I realised how truly annoying it was, at least in the way that I had used it. After thinking about all the annoying site examples I realised that the real problem with these sites was that there was no content! It was as if people didn't have anything REALLY good to put on their sites so they put up gimmicky things and gizmos and things meant to make the page look fancy, while neglecting to put up the substance of the site. I can't believe so many of us don't have a lot of good ideas fora site, certainly I have a surplus, although I despair of ever scripting them all (code maker apps make annoying sites:)) So what's the problem. Are we afraid to put up our best ideas (someone might think we're nuts if we don't put up the same boring page as everyone else) are we afraid of having our best ideas 'stolen'--this does happen all the time. Are we concerned about enforcing copyright on ideas we have been working on a long long time, that might actually be really good ideas?...or are we lazy. It's a piece of cake to script a page full of flashing things, animated .giffs, tacky backgrounds, lists, tables and popups. My campaign about inter-active media has a lot to do with wanting to see really interesting dynamic pages. Have a look at the how to build an annoying site list. I've thought about doing almost everything on the list and then cancelled (or sometimes not) when I realised how annoying it would be. I am thinking about everything I want on my new page. I am making what seem to me to be painful decisions because I thought something I wanted to do would be 'really cool' and I suddenly realised it wasn't. I am trying to anticipate who might come to a page that can only be found via a search engine and what might be truly interesting and unique. I am having a nasty time trying to organise the page (always one of my weak spots.) But maybe, if you really don't have any content you don't need to make page. Maybe you might want to make a page that only your friends and family see--because they really will be interested. I believe there are huge numbers of creative geniuses out there who are just chicken. If you think content content content and think attractive attractive attractive and think unique--you might be able to turn your uneventful mediocre 15 minites of fame into something to talk about

Did i ever tell you my favorite body part on a woman? For sure, for me, it is her brain. Looks can be deceiving. If you would do a poll based on "looks", i think everyone would judge me, and say i liked other body parts better, based off of the way i look. I always wanted to do a poll on the internet, based off of normal everyday photo's of people. The poll would probably be more accurate than stopping people on the street and putting them on TV, because there is no privacy on TV if they were to televise it. I think it would make for an interesting poll and an interesting site if it was put together properly.

Ok, speaking of sites and content, i put gizmo's on my site a couple years back. I did it simply to capture all of my experiments and tests. It was a site full of "tricks" and "how to's", but the content was always based off of another site i got the ideas from, or books where i already learned how to do somethings. It was interesting and fun to do at the time, while i was learning. I don't have a problem with anyone that does this type of site. I have the same problem, deciding what content to put. Over the years, i think i decided to get multiple domain names, and then put content that would fit the domain name and try and focus on it. It is very easy to get off on a tangent :)) and put up so many different things, the site really does not have a theme :)).

The blog world and intereactive media world has changed things for me. Rather than putting up static content, it allows us to share daily views and ideas with others, and i find this much more stimulating. I use to have my own blog, and considered my blog to be something that would capture my daily thoughts. I tried to put something up daily, even on days that were boring. I think it forced me to study and read more on a daily basis so i could keep the ideas and thoughts rolling daily.

Thanks for your latest blog items, i find them very interesting. I have only one complaint about this template! It does not have RSS. The functionality is there, but where has the RSS gone? I always like to add RSS feeds to some of my blogs :)). Adding the RSS feed back in to this template would be another way, melanie - concatenations could interact with other blog communities right? If i am not mistaken, when you first put the concatnations blog up, it had the RSS feed on it, plus other feeds for things like atom and maybe OPML. I could be wrong, but if not, i think it would be a great idea to get the RSS added back into your site, and allow sharing the RSS Feed with other sites. Have a nice day boss :)
